"The works of the Church of Alba de Tormes will stops while the economic crisis causes that there are people who need the help of the Church of Salamanca. " Such confidence was expressed by the Vicar General of the Diocese of Salamanca, Florentino Sánchez Gutiérrez during the breakfast briefing organized by COPE Peñaranda held yesterday at the Hotel Las Cabanas.

While he said the Vicar, "we consider it necessary that these works are completed towards the biennium 2014-2015, when they celebrate the fourth anniversary of the beatification of the Holy (2014) and the fifth centenary of his birth (2015). "

not forget that Alba de Tormes those months will become a "world reference center on the religious level, gathering, possibly, thousands of pilgrims, as it was in 1982 when it commemorated the 400 years since the death of Santa Teresa, when which was attended by Pope John Paul II, "said Gutierrez.

"Also it is good that the Church did not finish what he started, and on the other hand, we must show respect to those who began work as the Father House, which is why the work will be completed in the future , yes, more easily perhaps what was projected as the Church must be, above all, humble, "the Vicar General in front of the media, representatives of the City peñarandino and several priests from the region who attended the breakfast. With regard to the delicate situation in some churches of the Diocese as the Mudejar church of El Salvador Rágama, Gutierrez lamented the paradox that modern times are bringing in this regard, that is, while many churches in small towns in the province urgently needed care, there are other areas on the outskirts of Salamanca where they have built parishes that serve the large number of people have gathered there. "With great sorrow, we do what we can, which not much, but the economy of the Diocese Nothing more, "lamented the Vicar.

News: Unfinished works after a century of

The Basilica of Santa Teresa in Alba de Tormes was begun in the late nineteenth century but continuing economic problems have stopped several times a building that is ignored when it might end

Gazette , February 1, 2010
SALAMANCA

The Basilica of Santa Teresa still unfinished after the Bishop of Salamanca has decided to stop their work to restart them two years, although the temple was begun in the late nineteenth century .

hopes to complete this building was resumed in 2007, when from the curia Salamanca was decided to restart an unfinished building and construction began in 1898, but everything is gone after failing to "gifts" to complete the temple .

The architect of the reform, Ricardo Pérez Navarro, said that "it will close one of the gateways to the reconstructed" and at that time, "two months", he will be once over, parked the rehabilitation project and completion of the Basilica.

This temple began to be built in 1898, a project of Bishop Thomas House, to guard the body of Saint Teresa, who died in Alba on October 4, 1582 and was to have large dimensions, as was designed for the main dome could be seen from Salamanca .

Salamanca architect Ricardo Pérez Navas was commissioned to complete the unfinished work in 1999, 70 years after the lack of money forced them to stop their work for the first time.

Although the architect is commissioned in 1999, the works will not restart again until 2007, when in November he presented the project to what is going to need 4.3 million euros, according to said at the time the vicar general of Salamanca, Florentino Gutierrez.

But it was "impossible" to raise that amount, so the diocese, which contributed one million, has decided to stop again a few works that have succeeded in concluding the cruise and the head of the Basilica.

The original idea of \u200b\u200bVillamayor sandstone has given way to brick and wood, which closed a portion of the temple, which "amounts to a third of the entire building, which occupied 3,000 meters plan , as pointed out Ricardo Pérez Navas.

These days, the masons are finishing the enclosure Gothic arch door that will make this part of the temple, for which the works were made as to their origins, to rub the stone once placed on the facade.

In this part of the Basilica were also designed stained glass windows, which would be "a unique example in the world in recognition of the excellence of women who, like Santa Teresa, played a decisive role in the Church" was said from the diocese for two years. But that idea has run into a glass to "shed light and clarity" to the base of the cruise, as recognized by the architect, intended to be used by the Church, although the original idea would be the place where he deposited the relics of Santa Teresa.
